The Tax Accountant supports the Accounting team by assisting with the preparation of federal and state tax filings, including corporate income tax returns, apportionment data for state income tax returns, and tax accounting provisions. This role plays a key part in the quarter-end and year-end tax reporting process. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Accounting and closely working with external consultants, the Tax Accountant ensures compliance with tax regulations while maintaining accurate financial records. Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a dynamic environment are essential.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with the preparation of federal corporate income tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with tax regulations.
- Support the preparation of state income tax and franchise tax returns, including gathering and analyzing apportionment data.
- Assist in the preparation of the quarterly and annual tax provisions, including deferred tax calculations and tax journal entries.
- Assist in the preparation and filing of non-income tax such as property tax, sales/GRT returns(if any), including administration to obtain, renew sales tax exemption certificates for both counterparties and our own.
- Manage property tax records, ensuring accurate assessments and processing payments in accordance with local requirements.
- Prepare and maintain supporting documentation for all tax filings.
- Assist with 1099 reporting and ensure timely and accurate submission.
- Support the quarter-end and year-end tax accounting reporting process.
- Reconcile tax accounts and assist in maintaining tax-related general ledger entries.
- Research federal, state, and local tax regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Assist in responding to tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities.
- Collaborate with external consultants on complex tax matters and audits as needed.
- Coordinate with other group entities to provide tax-related data for accurate reporting and compliance.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external consultants.
- Familiarity with tax reporting forms.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and tax regulations.
- Detail-oriented mindset to ensure accuracy in tax filings and reporting.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills to maintain tax records, documentation, and supporting workpapers.
- Proactive approach to managing tax compliance and ensuring timely filing of tax returns.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills (especially Microsoft Excel)
- System experience with NetSuite preferred
- Strong communication skills and problem-solving abilities

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- 2-3 years direct experience in corporate tax, public accounting, or a similar tax-focused role.
- Previous experience working with external tax consultants or auditors preferred.
- Experience with NetSuite preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Fluent verbal and written skills in English.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:
- CPA or Master’s degree in Taxation (preferred but not required).
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. Physical demands include:
- Prolonged periods of sitting and may need to routinely move around to communicate with different groups
- Occasionally work late to meet with Tokyo office
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Must have a valid DL.
