Senior Accountant

Reports Directly To: Accounting Manager

SUMMARY:

Senior Accountant is responsible for preparing, tracking, and evaluating day-to-day activities, including bookkeeping, closing etc. Responsibilities include but are not limited to developing, implementing and enhancing processes for collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting information.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations including but not limited to
  • Monthly, quarterly & annual closing
  • Manage monthly accounting operation such as: Accounts receivable/Accounts payable processing, Fixed Assets, Prepaid amortization, cash activities
  • Derivative transaction reconciliation
  • Processing and posting of Journal entries into General Ledger
  • Revenue and expenditure analysis
  • Reconcile Balance Sheet and Income Statement each month
  • Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements
  • Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles
  • Coordinate and complete annual audits
  • Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions
  • Assign projects and direct staff to ensure compliance and accuracy
  • Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions
  • Assist Accounting Manager in monthly and quarterly accounting reports for management and executive teams
  • Implement and monitor month, quarter, and year-end closeout accounting schedules
  • Maintain high level of accuracy in the use of resources through proper monitoring and efficient analysis of the accounting department’s activities
  • Ensure timely and accurate periodic, quarterly, and annual ledger close
  • Manage tax return preparation with tax advisors, including provision calculations
  • Manage internal control assessment and improvement
  • Assist creating, updating, and analyzing budget and forecast
  • Communicate with related parties within the company, parent company, external auditor / tax advisor / accounting advisor, project partner / vendor to complete tasks

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Able to work in fact pace and multiple deadline environment
  • Knowledge of and experience in commodities trading accounting concepts/treatments, such as journal entries of Mark-to-Market for derivatives, IFRS9, hedge accounting etc.
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office (especially Excel), accounting software and databases.
  • Ability to analyze large amounts of data
  • Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to adapt to a cross-cultural environment
  • Ability to improve monthly Accounting processes and productivity
  • General knowledge of IFRS and USGAAP
  • Ability to work independently with little to no supervision, as well as dependable with good initiative.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • More than 5 years direct experience in Accounting required.
  • Public Accounting experience (preferred)
  • NetSuite and Allegro (preferred)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field required

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Fluent verbal and written skills in English.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • CPA preferred but not required

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. Physical demands include:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and may need to routinely move around to communicate with different groups
  • Occasionally work late to meet with Tokyo office
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must have a valid DL.
