SUMMARY:

The Natural Gas Trader for MEMS, Inc. will be responsible for managing and optimizing Mitsui’s natural gas portfolio in the Gulf/Texas region in the next day and prompt month gas market. This position supports Mitsui’s LNG, Chemical and South Texas Equity divisions and will be required to work closely with all downstream and upstream Mitsui personnel. The successful candidate will thoroughly understand the gas grid, key participants, and physical flow dynamics on Gulf/Texas pipelines (including Tetco, Transco, TGP, COL Gulf, HPL, Katy Area).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage daily and prompt month physical natural gas positions on assigned pipeline and regions
  • Ability to originate independent trade ideas and successfully execute transactions through physical trading, transportation, storage and park and loans to meet both individual and team revenue budgets
  • Timely communication with other traders and scheduling personnel regarding market and pipeline information
  • Work with traders in adjacent markets and regions to optimize assets that span large geographic areas
  • Assist internal departments, such as Confirmations, Risk, IT and Accounting to ensure deals are managed according to their intent in a timely and accurate manner
  • Build and maintain relationships with third parties to increase Mitsui’s presence in assigned region. This will include supporting VP of Natural Gas in identifying longer term gas transaction opportunities
  • Support Mitsui’s fundamental market research by monitoring market developments that may impact supply / demand in assigned region
  • Any other duties as directed by Manager
  • Adherence to all corporate Risk Management policies and procedures

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency or the ability to effectively demonstrate proficiency with appropriate training with third party software licensed to the Company such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, Word). Experience with Allegro a plus.
  • Excellent analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Exceptional communication skills. Possess refined interpersonal verbal and written communication skills, including writing and telephone communication skills. Ability to present to senior managers when needed.
  • Understanding of natural gas financial trading products and risk management preferred.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently with little to no supervision.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent related work experience [Finance or Accounting preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of industry experience required (for Trader II)
  • 2+ year(s) of Natural Gas Trading experience preferred

  • Fluent verbal and written skills in English

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. Physical demands include:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and may need to routinely move around to communicate with different groups
  • Occasionally work late to meet with Tokyo office
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must have a valid DL.
